New Home With High Levels

This home in Mantua, OH had just recently been built and with a mother-in-law suite in the basement. The homeowners were concerned about elevated radon levels. So they bought multiple monitors and tracked the levels over the course of a year.

Once they had enough data to conclude that they were sitting around 6-7 pCi/L, they contacted Harner Radon Relief to do a free evaluation. Once on site, we determined that sealing up the sump crock as well as tying our sub-slab depressurization system into the interior footer drain would give us the results we were looking for!

Another aspect that we addressed was underneath the tub in the basement bathroom, where the plumbers had run the drains, they left a hole in the concrete. To address this, we made an access point in the wall on the other side of the drain and filled the opening with spray foam. This stops radon from coming through the opening as well as avoiding any vacuum loss with our system.

The levels came down dramatically to approximately 1 pCi/L! And now the homeowners can have the peace of mind that their basement is a safe place for their family to spend time in.

We tested this home for radon and the levels came back low. However the homeowners were still concerned about overall indoor air quality, especially because they often have their young grandkids over. Luckily they had a 1" furnace filter slot that we were able to utilize for our Breathe EZ Air Cleaner.

This filter is wired into the accessory panel on the furnace board. This ionizes the filter, allowing it to attract small particles while still keeping the weave loose, which allows for better air flow. Because of this ionization, the filtering capabilities are as good as a HEPA filter, and it even goes a step further by capturing radon decay products (which are what causes radon induced lung cancer).
