Is Your Air Polluted?
The importance of indoor air quality (IAQ) has become increasingly popular with the emergence of the pandemic as well as the ever frequent wildfires.
But what is poor IAQ?
IAQ is the amount of particulates floating throughout the air in your home, which can be made up of pollen, dust, viruses, mold.
It is also made up of the amount of chemicals in the air (VOC's) which can be from everyday cleaning products, building materials, etc.
The amount of carbon monoxide which can be from any gas burning appliances.
The amount of carbon dioxide which is simply from breathing out.
As well as the humidity levels in a home.
Why does IAQ matter?
1. Health- Poor IAQ can cause respiratory issues such as allergies, asthma, fatigue, headaches. As well as worsen pre-existing conditions, causing strain on the lungs, the immune system, and even cardiovascular health. Exposure to high levels of carbon monoxide can also be deadly.
2. Cognitive Function- High levels of carbon dioxide can lower the capacity for concentration and decision making. Which can affect overall productivity.
3. Building Health- High levels of humidity can lead to accelerated mold growth (dust floating through the air can be food for mold, exacerbating the effects of high humidity) as well as moisture damage, causing rot to begin in levels of house most affected.
